Bangladesh won first ODI, lead in series
After a brilliant half-century by captain and opener Tamim Iqbal (52), wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim (84) and Mahmudullah (54), Bangladesh bowled out 33 runs in the first ODI on Sunday with a superb bowling by Mehdi Hasan (four wickets for 30 runs). Took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Bangladesh scored a challenging score of 257 runs for six wickets in 50 overs and then settled Sri Lanka for 224 runs in 48.1 overs. Apart from Mehdi Hasan’s four wickets, Mustafizur Rahman took three wickets for 34 runs and Mohammad Saifuddin took two wickets for 49 runs.
For Sri Lanka, number eight batsman Vanindu Hasaranga scored the highest 74 runs from 60 balls with the help of three fours and five sixes. He was dismissed as the eighth batsman on the team’s score of 211 and Sri Lanka’s hopes of winning the match ended with his dismissal. Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored the highest 84 runs in Bangladesh’s innings, was given the Player of the Match award.
