Jitin Prasada joins BJP, Congress’s clan is seen crumbling in UPCongress’s clan is seen crumbling in UP
The country’s oldest party Congress is not taking its name to end. Former Union Minister Jitin Prasada, a veteran leader of UP Congress, joined BJP today. The joining of Jitin Prasad, one of the senior Congress leaders in Uttar Pradesh, can be important in terms of elections in the state next year. However, Jitin Prasada has inherited this rebellion. In fact, Jitin’s father Jitendra Prasad also fought against Sonia Gandhi in the election for the National President of Congress in the year 2000. However, he lost and died shortly after. Jitendra Prasad, while MP, opposed Sonia Gandhi becoming the party president continuously. This is also because Jitendra Prasad as a worker was much senior to Sonia Gandhi in the party. However, in the year 2000, when he stood against Sonia Gandhi for the post of party president, he was defeated in it. Four years later, i.e. in 2004 itself, Jitin Prasada became a Lok Sabha MP from his home constituency Shahjahanpur for the first time. Not only this, in the year 2008, he became a minister in the cabinet of PM Manmohan Singh. At that time he became the youngest minister. Jitin Prasada, considered close to Rahul Gandhi, has been a two-time MP from the Congress. However, he was about to leave the party even two years back. It is being told that even after being a member of the Congress Working Committee, Jitin is not happy with the party leadership. Even during the last assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Jitin Prasad was considered as the strongest contender for the post of state president, but at that time Raj Babbar was entrusted with this responsibility, which Jitin did not like. However, even when Rahul Gandhi became the national president of the Congress, the biggest challenge remained to revive the party in Uttar Pradesh. Jitin’s father Jitendra Prasad has also been an advisor to the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Narasimha Rao. Jitin Prasad has been considered among the young leaders who have inherited the legacy of Congress-affiliated families like Sachin Pilot, Jyotiraditya Scindia. Like Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jitin’s departure in the BJP is being considered as a big setback for the Congress. However, voices were raised against Jitin in the Uttar Pradesh Congress. Last year itself, some senior Congress leaders had written a letter to party president Sonia Gandhi demanding major changes. The group of these leaders is known as G-23. One of the prominent names of those who wrote letters was also of Jitin Prasad. However, after this letter became public, a demand was also raised in the Uttar Pradesh Congress to take action against Jitin. The state unit had demanded action against all the leaders who wrote the letter, which had a special mention of Jitin Prasada.
