West Bengal : Former President Mukherjee’s son Abhijit joins TMC

Big blow to Congress

Late President Pranab Mukherjee’s son and former Congress MP Abhijit Mukherjee has joined the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee. TMC MP and TMC leader in Lok Sabha Sudip Bandyopadhyay and TMC State General Secretary and Minister Partha Chatterjee were present on the occasion organized at Trinamool Bhavan.

After joining TMC, Abhijit Mukherjee praised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He said that the way Mamata Banerjee stopped the communal wave of BJP in the recent assembly elections, I am sure that in future she will be able to do so across the country with the support of other parties. Abhijit Mukherjee said that apart from primary membership, I was not included in any group of Congress party nor given any post. So I have joined TMC as a soldier. I will work as per the directions of the party. I will work to maintain integrity and secularism.

According to the information, TMC can contest him from Jangipur assembly seat. Mukherjee has lost the Lok Sabha elections in 2019 from Jangipur seat. Abhijit Mukherjee, former Congress MP from Jangipur, had criticized the party leadership led by Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury as the party could not even open its account in the assembly elections. The Congress, which had been the main opposition in the last assembly, had entered into an electoral alliance with the Communist Party-led Left Front in the assembly elections this time but failed to win a single seat in the 292-seat assembly elections.
