Isaac Hazare sworn in as President of Israel
Former Labor Party leader Isaac Hazareg has been sworn in as the new President of Israel. Hazareg, 60, was sworn in in the Israeli parliament and became the 11th President of Israel.
In his first speech as president, Hazareg committed to serving the citizens of Israel. He said Israel’s politics needed a more liberal tone and that provocations that divide and polarize Israeli society needed to be stopped.
He said that my mission, the work of my tenure, would be to rebuild hope for the society.
Hazareg succeeds Reuven Rivlin, who had served as president for the previous seven years.
Hazare is the son of the sixth President of Israel, Chaim Hazare.
