Germany demands the release of journalists from Belarus
Germany has called on Belarus to release journalists detained during a raid on a media house. Foreign Office spokesman Rainer Breull said: “We strongly condemn this political action against the independent media and Belarusian citizens.” Belarus agencies must respect basic rights, including the interests of the media, and detain detained journalists.
Belarus’s investigative committee confirmed that the editor-in-chief of Nasha Niva, a leading opposition newspaper, and three other journalists were detained on Thursday. These journalists are suspected of distributing prohibited and intelligence information.
