Messi dedicates Copa America victory to Argentine citizens and Maradona

LArgentine football team captain Lionel Messi dedicated the team’s Copa America victory to 45 million Argentine nationals and the legendary late footballer Diego Maradona. He also expressed the hope that this emotional victory will help his compatriots give strength in their fight to recover from the corona virus.

It is noteworthy that Messi won the first international title of his career when his team defeated Brazil 1–0 in the final of the Copa América at the Maracan Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, marking 28 years for a major trophy for Argentina. The wait is over.

“It was an incredible tournament,” Messi said in an Instagram post on Sunday. We know we can still improve on a lot of things, but the truth is the players put their all into it. What could be more proud of me than having the privilege of being the captain of this wonderful group. I would like to dedicate this success to my family, who have always given me the strength to move forward. To my friends, whom I love dearly, to all those who believe in us, and especially to the 45 million Argentine citizens who have given me the strength to move forward.

Messi, who was awarded Player of the Tournament for four goals and five assists, dedicated the victory to the memory of Argentine football legend Diego Maradona, who died last year at the age of 60. Barcelona striker Messi has won the FIFA World Player of the Year award for a record six times. He is widely regarded as one of football’s greatest, along with Pele, Maradona and his rival Cristiano Ronaldo.
