Japan should be proud of Tokyo Olympics: Christophe Dubi

International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Director Christophe Dubi has said that the people of Japan should be proud that the postponed Olympic Games 2020 are scheduled to be held a week later in Tokyo. Dubi said, be proud of what has happened. Organizing such an event is no small feat. The Olympic Games are organized for the first time in the context of the Corona pandemic and it is only because here in Japan there are wonderful people, very capable officials, very capable businesses and very capable organizing skills that you can do that.

Despite the uncertainties over the Tokyo Games, Dubi said the IOC is now confident about preparing for the Olympics. “We are absolutely sure,” he said. You have some of the best places you’ve ever had, as the president has declared on several occasions this is probably the best organizing committee ever. We’ve also been incredibly focused. We have all the additional operations. Our first objective is to organize the Games safely.

According to Dubi, effective collaboration has been of paramount importance to sports. He said, there is a great partnership between all the parties involved in the sport. Re-planning something of this level is a huge task, which was never done. All eyes were on the board to re-imagine whether the Games would be held a year later.

The IOC executive director said, “This time we have very strong sports in Japan and it is our aim to allow the organizers to reflect on some more local sports.” We have information about the Games going to be held in Paris in 2024 which is huge, it’s great to be involved and we will also have new Games in Los Angeles in 2028. That’s the beauty of it. It shows the evolution of the game.
