Archer Deepika and her husband Atanu Das did their first exercise in Tokyo

India’s medal hopefuls in the mixed team archery event at the Tokyo Olympics, husband-wife duo of Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari practiced for the first time on Monday at Yumenoshima Park.

The two were put to practice in the first group at the main training facilities along with dozens of archers from other countries. The archery competitions will begin on the morning of 23 July with a preliminary round (qualification round) for the individual and mixed team events.
Deepika has been in fine form, winning three gold medals at the FITA World Cup Stage 3 in Paris last month. In the women’s individual recurve final, Dipika defeated Elena Osipova of Russia on June 27 to claim her third title with the women’s and mixed team titles.

Tokyo is Deepika’s third Olympics. She had finished eighth in the women’s team event at the 2012 London Olympics and had been knocked out in the first round in the women’s individual section in Rio de Janeiro five years earlier. Deepika, 27, who hails from Ranchi, Jharkhand, is hoping to get lucky for the third time.
