Haseeb Hamid celebrates his return to the team by scoring a century

Opener Haseeb Hamid (112) celebrated his return to the England team with a scintillating century on the second day of the three-day warm-up match against India while pacer Umesh Yadav took three wickets for just 22 runs as the highest of all Indian bowlers. Impressed. County Select XI are on 220 for the loss of nine wickets at the end of the day and are 91 runs behind India’s score.

The 24-year-old Hamid made his Test debut in November 2016 against India in Saurashtra and played his last Test in the same series against India in Mohali. Hamid has been included in the announced Test squad for the Test series against India starting on August 4. Hamid celebrated his comeback by scoring a brilliant century. Hamid hit 13 fours in 112 off 246 balls to lift County Select XI from a fragile 56 for four. He shared a 75-run partnership with Lyndon James for the fifth wicket. James scored 27 runs. Hamid then added 39 runs in a seventh-wicket partnership with Liam Patterson White. Hamid was dismissed by Shardul Thakur as the seventh batsman for the team’s score of 198. White was dismissed as the ninth batsman on 33 runs and the day’s play ended with his dismissal.

Indian batsman Washington Sundar, who came out to play for County Select XI, became the victim of Mohammad Siraj by scoring just one run. Among the Indian bowlers, Umesh Yadav took three wickets for just 22 runs in 15 overs, while Mohammad Siraj took two wickets for 32 runs in 13 overs. Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel got one wicket each.
Earlier, India started their innings ahead of 306 runs for nine wickets and their first innings ended on 311 runs. Bumrah was bowled by Craig Miles for five runs while Siraj remained unbeaten on three.
