Saurabh Chaudhary of Meerut raised hopes of gold medal, placing first in the final of 10m air pistol event

India beat New Zealand in hockey on the second day of Tokyo Olympics. Meanwhile, young shooter Saurabh Chaudhary has reached the final of the 10m air pistol event of the Tokyo Olympics. With this, the hopes of winning a medal from Saurabh have increased. This Indian player made a strong performance in the qualification and qualified for the final by finishing first. Saurabh scored a total of 586 in six series. Series by series, Saurabh scored 95, 98, 98, 100, 98, 97. He was given a tough challenge by Zhang Woben of China. In these two, the race for first and second place continued in which Indian shooters went ahead. Zhang finished second. Both these players got a good challenge initially from Germany’s Reitz Christian but he could not beat them and finished third. Zhang also scored a total of 586 and the third-ranked German scored 584 . Eight shooters have qualified for the finals. With this, Saurabh has increased India’s medal hopes.

Another Indian male shooter Abhishek Verma also participated in the same event. Abhishek, however, could not impress with his performance and finished 17th. Abhishek scored a total of 575 with 94, 96, 98, 97, 60. Abhishek was once in the top-5 but then he also dropped out of the top-10 and missed the final.

Earlier, Indian women shooters tried their luck but they could not qualify for the final. Women’s 10m Elavenil and Apurvi Chandela of India missed the target in the qualification round of the air rifle. Neither of these two Indian shooters could qualify for the final. Elavenil, playing her first Olympics, finished 16th with a score of 626.5, while the more experienced Apurvi was worse off. At Asaka’s shooting range, Apurvi shot 621.9 from her target to finish at number 36. This was the first shooting event in the Tokyo Olympics, in which India’s hopes of winning a medal have ended.
