West Bengal : Engineers, post graduates are applying for the post of ‘Dome’ in the morgue, 8,000 applications for 6 posts

Engineers, graduates and post graduate candidates are among 8000 applicants who applied for recruitment to six posts of laboratory assistants for handling dead bodies in a government hospital in Kolkata. The laboratory assistant is also known colloquially in the morgue as ‘dom’. An official of the medical establishment gave this information.

He said that about 100 engineers, 500 post graduates and 2,200 graduate candidates have applied for recruitment to the six posts of ‘DOM’ in the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Neel Ratna Government Medical College cum Hospital.

The hospital official said that out of the total applicants, 784 including 84 female candidates have been called for the written examination to be held on August 1.

According to the recruitment notification out in December last year, the eligibility for this post is at least VIII pass and the age limit is 18-40 years. Whereas the monthly salary is Rs 15,000.

“Many applicants are highly educated according to the qualification of the job. It is surprising that those having Engineering, Masters and Bachelor’s degree applied for this post. This happened for the first time. We usually get applications from people whose family members are already working as ‘doms’.
