First consignment of vegetables exported from Uttarakhand to UAE
In a major boost to export of agricultural products from Uttarakhand, the first consignment of vegetables including curry leaves, okra, pear and bitter gourd received from the farmers of Haridwar were today exported to Dubai, UAE.
The export of vegetables comes after a consignment of millet grown in Uttarakhand was exported to Denmark in May 2021.
APEDA in collaboration with Uttarakhand Agricultural Produce Marketing Board (UKAPMB) and Just Organic, an exporter, procured and processed Ragi, and Jhingora, which meet the European Union’s organic certification standards, for export from farmers in Uttarakhand.
The Uttarakhand government has been supporting organic farming. Through a unique initiative, UKAPMB has been assisting thousands of farmers for organic certification. These farmers mainly grow coarse cereals like Ragi, Jhingora, Chaulai etc.
Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has been carrying out promotional activities to put Uttarakhand on the export map of India’s agricultural and processed food products. APEDA is planning to provide financial assistance for setting up a pack house in Uttarakhand which will meet the essential requirement or infrastructure requirement for export of fresh fruits and vegetables to the international market.
APEDA will continue to focus on the Uttarakhand region both in terms of capacity building, quality up-gradation and infrastructure development by connecting buyers with farmers through strengthening the entire supply chain of agricultural produce.
India exported fruits and vegetables worth Rs 11019 crore in 2020-21, showing an increase of 9 percent as compared to exports of Rs 10114 crore in 2019-20.
APEDA undertakes market promotion activities, market intelligence for informed decision making, international experience, skill development, capacity building and high quality packaging for export of food products.
