Assam government forbids residents to go to Mizoram

In the wake of Monday’s bloody border clashes and the subsequent developments, the Assam government has asked its citizens not to travel to the neighboring state of Mizoram. The Commissioner and Secretary, Home and Political Department, M.S. Manivannan said in the travel advisory that in view of the prevailing grave situation, the people of Assam are advised not to travel to Mizoram, as any threat to their personal safety cannot be accepted.
It has been said that due to the compulsion related to work, the people of Assam living in Mizoram should take full care.

The advisory said that several cases of violent clashes have been reported in the Assam-Mizoram border region, including most recently in Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts of Assam bordering Mizoram.

Noting that on Monday Cachar witnessed indiscriminate firing on policemen as well as civilians, in which six policemen lost their lives and several police personnel and civilians were seriously injured. Even after this incident, some Mizo civil society, students, and youth organizations continue to issue provocative statements against the state of Assam and its people.

“It is credibly revealed from the video footage available with the Assam Police that many civilians are heavily armed with automatic weapons etc. With a view to ensure safety, this travel advisory has been issued to all people.
