Sushmita Dev, who resigned from Congress, joins TMC, will be the face of the party in Assam

Sushmita Dev, who left the Congress party, has joined the Trinamool Trinamool Congress. On Monday itself, he took the membership of TMC in Kolkata. On this occasion, the nephew of West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee and MPs Abhishek Banerjee and Dereke O’Brien were present. A TMC source said, “Sushmita will be the face of the Trinamool Congress party in Assam.” Significantly, Sushmita has been a Congress MP from Silchar in Assam, where her father Santosh Mohan Dev had a strong hold at one time.

Former Congress MP Sushmita Dev had written a letter to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi informing her about leaving the party. In the recent assembly elections, the Congress fought the elections by forming a grand alliance to defeat the BJP, but the party could not stop the BJP from coming to power again. Sushmita Dev was also the president of the women’s wing of the Congress. She has also left the WhatsApp group associated with the party.
Sushmita was one of the Congress leaders whose Twitter handle was locked for allegedly showing photos of the parents of a 9-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in Delhi. This picture was shared by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after meeting the girl’s family, later many people tweeted this. As soon as Rahul Gandhi’s account was locked, many Congress leaders including Sushmita had replaced their ‘display picture’ with the photo of the former Congress President (Rahul Gandhi) to show solidarity. The account was restored last week. After this it was posted on behalf of the Congress and it was said – Satyamev Jayate.
