Zambian opposition leader Hichilema wins presidential election

The Leader of the Opposition in Zambia, Hakende Hichilema, won the presidential election held on August 12, defeating incumbent President Edgar Lungu.
Mr. Hichilema secured 28,10,757 votes while Mr. Lungu secured only 18,14,201 votes.
Zambia’s election commission chairman Justice Esau Chulu announced the election results in the early hours of Monday after a thorough and thorough scrutiny of votes in 155 of the 156 constituencies.
