Pegasus Scandal : Bengal government files affidavit in SC, justifies formation of judicial commission

Pegasus Scandal: The Government of West Bengal has defended the Justice Lokur Judicial Commission set up to investigate the Pegasus espionage case. The Bengal government has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court in this matter, in which it has been said that the constitution of the judicial commission is not a parallel inquiry. This will not affect the pending proceedings in the Supreme Court. The affidavit also states that the issue is of public importance and the state has the power to set up a commission to restore public confidence. In this, the petitioner has been questioned by the NGO, alleging that it is close to the RSS. When the Center is not committed to the matter and procrastinates on Pegasus, the state cannot sit as a mute spectator.

In fact, the Supreme Court had issued notice to the West Bengal government on the petition of the NGO challenging the appointment of a judicial commission headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice Madan Lokur by the Mamata government. The Supreme Court will hear the issue today.
