Akash Kumar enters quarter finals of World Boxing Championship

Young Indian boxer Akash Kumar lost in the semi-final bout of the ongoing AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championship 2021 in Belgrade, Serbia, on Thursday. Despite suffering a loss against Kazakhstan’s Makhmud Sabirkhan, Akash ended his journey with a bronze medal on his international debut. The 21-year-old boxer from Bhiwani had secured at least a bronze medal for himself in the 21st edition of the tournament after making a big upset in the 54kg category on Tuesday while making it to the semi-finals. In the quarterfinals, Akash defeated Rio Olympic silver medalist and strong Venezuelan medalist Yoel Finol 5-0 in a one-sided.
