Earth’s ‘sunscreen’ is melting rapidly…NASA released video
▪️This hole in the ozone layer is bigger than North America in size
▪️Scientists estimate – by the end of November, the layer can be cured again
▪️Ozone layer will be able to make full recovery by 2070 instead of 2060
A new video from the US space agency NASA has increased panic among scientists. Because it has been shown in this video that there has been a big hole in the ozone layer over Antarctica. This is the biggest hole for the 13th time since 1979. Scientists believe that this condition is due to global warming. The ozone layer is monitored by three satellites of NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The first is AURA, the second is SOMI-NPP and the third is NOAA-20.
This video of NASA clearly shows how a huge hole has happened in the ozone layer over Antarctica on 29 October 2021. Scientists estimate that it will take the month of November to close this hole. Ozone is such an oxygen compound that not only is formed naturally, it can also be made by humans. It is formed above the upper part of the Earth’s atmosphere.
Today's #Ozone analysis from @CopernicusECMWF #AtmosphereMonitoring Service @ECMWF shows that the #OzoneHole still covers an area of about 20 million m^2 and that minimum ozone columns are still below 150 DU. More information on https://t.co/JGcrURyxJM pic.twitter.com/paHyCsPyvP

How is the ozone layer formed naturally?
Ozone is formed in the stratosphere when ultraviolet radiation from the sun collides with the molecular oxygen of the Earth’s atmosphere. Therefore ozone acts as a sunscreen. Protects the earth from ultraviolet rays. The sad thing is that due to the chlorine and bromine released from human activities, the ozone layer starts deteriorating. There is a hole in it. Through this hole, the ultraviolet rays of the sun start reaching the ground.
There was a big hole in the ozone in April last year but it was soon recovered.
Under the Montreal Protocol in 1987, 50 countries signed an agreement to ban the production of substances that deplete the ozone layer. But many countries of the world did not sign it. Because many of those countries do not easily follow this protocol. However, NASA says that the Montreal Protocol has benefited greatly. Paul Newman, Chief Scientist of Earth Sciences at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, said that the condition of the ozone layer worsened by the year 2021 because the stratosphere was cooler than average. If there was no protocol, it could have been bigger.
Ozone layer hole reaches its highest level
The hole in the ozone layer reached its highest level this year. It was the size of North America. That is, 2.48 crore square kilometers. NASA said that the ozone layer has decreased rapidly since mid-October this year. If the Montreal Protocol had not been implemented, by now the size of the ozone layer would have been 4 million square kilometers and more.
Vincent Henry Pew, director of the European Union’s Copernicus Atmospheric Monitoring Service, said that when countries signed the Montreal Protocol, scientists had said that the ozone layer would fully recover by the year 2060. But as of now the recovery is very slow. Now it will take at least 2070 to complete it.
