Sourav Ganguly revealed, Virat Kohli did not agree, because of this he was removed from the captaincy

The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Wednesday took the important decision of snatching the ODI captaincy from Virat Kohli and giving it to Rohit Sharma. Before the T20 World Cup, Kohli had announced to step down as captain in this format. He wanted to be the captain in ODIs and Tests. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has broken his silence for the first time on his removal from the captaincy.

Talking to AAI, Ganguly said, “This is a decision that has been taken by the BCCI and the selectors together. In fact, the BCCI had requested Virat Kohli that as soon as he left the captaincy of T20, ODIs, but he did not do this. Didn’t agree.

The Indian cricket team has not won a single ICC tournament so far under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. The T20 World Cup was his last chance to win the ICC tournament as a captain but here the team was eliminated from the first round itself. Even the Indian team was stigmatized for the biggest defeat in history against Pakistan. The team had never lost to the Pakistan team in any ICC World Cup till now.

Ganguly further said, “After all the discussion it was decided that Virat will continue to captain the Test cricket and Rohit will take over the captaincy of the limited overs format. I personally spoke to him as the chairman and the chief selector also accompanied him. The matter was discussed.”
