First death from Omicron in US, new variant cases increased from 3 to 73% within a week
The first death from the Omicron variant of Corona has been recorded in the US. This death occurred on Monday in Texas. However, so far the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has not made any official statement. It is believed that the age of the deceased was between 50 and 60 years and he had not even taken the corona vaccine. Within the last one week, Omicron variants of Corona have increased rapidly in the US.
The Omicron variant has now started showing its havoc in the US as well. According to the latest estimates, 73 percent of the total samples sent for genome sequencing in the US are now Omicron cases. Worryingly, last week this figure was just 3 per cent.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updates one of its models every week. It has been told that now Omicron has spread all over America. Till last week, the Delta variant had the highest number of cases in the US, but now it has remained only 27 percent.
The CDC said Omicron’s cases were already expected to rise and it was in line with the pattern seen in the rest of the world. In some parts of the US, almost all cases are from Omicron. According to the CDC, 92 percent of corona cases in New York and New Jersey are from Omicron, while Washington has 96 percent.
