Uttarakhand : BJP cut MLAs’ tickets

The BJP, which is going to face elections while in government, has cut the tickets of 20 percent of its MLAs who won in 2017. Apart from this, three MLAs of the party have themselves walked out of the electoral fray, while three others have changed their party. In the 2017 assembly elections, the BJP had won a record 57 seats. By the time elections came, the number of BJP members was reduced to 55 due to defection and death.

Out of these 55 MLAs, the party has not given tickets to 11 MLAs in this election, including Rajkumar, who joined the BJP a few months ago, after winning Purola on a Congress ticket. This number is 20 percent of the active members of the BJP. Apart from this, three MLAs of the party, former CM Trivendra Singh Rawat, Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion and Harbhajan Singh Cheema are not contesting the elections for different reasons.

In this, tickets have been given in their place in the family of Cheema and Champion. While former ministers Yashpal Arya, Harak Singh Rawat and Sanjeev Arya have themselves left the party. Even after cutting the ticket, BJP is claiming that it will form the government by winning the upcoming assembly elections in 2022.
