In 97, he was also the General Secretary of the Students’ Union in the Government College, Chamba. He was associated with Yuva Morcha for a long time. However, at present he is not holding any post in the BJP organization. It is being told that he has a strong hold on the Garhwali votes, angry with Chamoli.

Vinod was a member of Chamoli Municipality. Then became the chairman of the municipality. After that he won the election of mayor. Then won the election of MLA from Dharampur assembly. Vinod Chamoli did not lose any election till date and remained active during the state movement. During the agitation, Rasuka was imposed on two agitators. In such a situation, both Congress and BJP will have to work hard on this seat.
