Uttarakhand : Election Commission strict on Harish Rawat’s photo tampering – BJP will have to answer, 24 hours to present clarification

The Election Commission has taken a tough stand on the morphed (tampered) photo of Congress leader Harish Rawat released on the Twitter handle of Uttarakhand BJP. The commission, considering it prima facie provocative and having a bad effect on the election process, has asked the BJP state president to reply within 24 hours. Congress leaders on Friday met Uttarakhand’s Chief Electoral Officer Sowjanya and lodged a complaint against the BJP. In which it was said that a tampered picture of former CM Harish Rawat has been released in a tweet released on Thursday night on the official Twitter handle of Uttarakhand BJP. that belongs to a community.

Along with this picture, a message has also been written. The Chief Electoral Officer’s office had sent the said complaint to the Election Commission of India, New Delhi, on which notice has been issued to the BJP state president on Saturday on behalf of the commission’s principal secretary, Rahul Sharma. In the notice, the commission has termed it prima facie a violation of the model code of conduct.

The Commission has considered it a violation of the condition of affecting the election process due to the provocative statements hurting the sentiments of the people and causing a law and order crisis. On this, the commission has asked the BJP state president to reply on this within 24 hours. If the reply is not given, the commission has also said to take further action.

BJYMO in-charge Bagga gave clarification

A clarification has also been issued on the Twitter handle of BJP Uttarakhand, on behalf of the state in-charge of BJP Yuva Morcha, Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, sent to the Chief Electoral Officer, Uttarakhand. In which Bagga has said that he compared Harish Rawat to Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, the founder of Aligarh Muslim University, not an insult but a sign of respect.
