Singer and composer Bappi Lahiri passed away, breathed his last in Mumbai

Music lovers had not yet recovered from the death of Bharat Ratna ‘Swar Kokila’ Lata Mangeshkar that another great personality of the cinema world passed away. Noted singer and composer Bappi Lahiri passed away on Wednesday. Lahiri gave great music in many films of Hindi and Bengali cinema. He had composed music for many Hindi films like Naya Kadam, Vardat, Disco Dancer, Hathkadi, Namak Halal, Masterji, Dance Dance, Himmatwala, Justice Chaudhary, Tohfa, Mokshak, Sailab, The Dirty Picture and Sharabi.

News agency PTI quoted a doctor as saying that singer-composer Bappi Lahiri passed away in a hospital in Mumbai. He was suffering from many diseases. Music composer Bappi Lahiri was 69 years old. The singer-composer is survived by his wife Chitrani Lahiri and his daughter-singer Rema Lahiri Bansal and son Krish Lahiri. Bappi Da was born in a Bengali Brahmin family in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. His parents, Bansuri Lahiri and Aparesh Lahiri, were both classical music experts. The legendary singer and actor Kishore Kumar was his maternal uncle.

Corona happened last year
Music composer Bappi Lahiri was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital last year after he turned Kovid positive. However, he was discharged after a few days. After recovery, Bappi Da was asked for bed rest and after that a wheelchair was also installed in his house with a lift so that he did not face much problem. Apart from this, the treatment of many other diseases of Bappi Lahiri was also going on.

Let us tell you that Bappi Lahiri’s real name is Alokesh Lahiri, but he is known as Bappi Lahiri in the industry. Apart from being a singer, he was also a composer, politician and record producer. He brought disco music to Indian cinema with a different style. He had hit tracks in films like Disco Dancer, Vardat, Namak Halal, Sharabi, Commando, which are still famous today.

Entered politics in 2014
After achieving tremendous success in the music field, Lahiri also entered politics. Although he did not succeed in this. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2014. He was declared the party’s candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Shrirampur (Lok Sabha constituency) in West Bengal but was defeated.

The special thing about Bappi Lahiri is that he sang songs not only in Hindi but also in Bengali, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada languages. Today the music industry has become empty with Bappi’s departure. Apart from singing in films like Disco Dancer, Namak Halal, Himmatwala and Sharabi, Bappi Da is also known for songs like ‘Are Pyaar Kar Le’ and ‘Ooh La La’.

In the last decade, Bappi Lahiri sang songs like Oo La La from The Dirty Picture, Tune Mari Entry from Gunday, Tamma Tamma from Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Hey Pyaar Kar Le from Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. He last composed the song 2 years ago. For the film Baaghi 3 which was released in the year 2020.
