Uttarakhand : Metro will also run in Dehradun

The State Government has sent a proposal to run Neo Metro in Dehradun to the Central Government for approval. Now after the final approval of the Center, after about five years, there is hope of starting work on this project in Dehradun. The state government has been making efforts to run metro in Dehradun for a long time.
For this, top level officers have been deployed while forming the Metro Corporation in 2016. Now after several rounds of brainstorming and considering the DPR, the state government has finally approved the proposal of Neo Metro. This proposal of the Housing Department has been sent to the Central Government for final approval, after approving it last month.
According to sources, in the first phase, the state government wants to run Neo Metro on two routes of Dehradun with a 50 percent share with the central government. In the second phase, Dehradun will be connected to Haridwar-Rishikesh via Metro. It is estimated that Rs 1600 crore will be spent on this entire project, the state government will take loan for this. After getting the approval from the central government, the government will take the land acquisition proceedings.

Earlier there was a plan to take the track of ISBT route till Jakhan. But due to more difficulties in land acquisition on Rajpur Road, in the first phase, this route has been limited to Gandhi Park. This track will merge with the FRI-Raipur road track at Gandhi Park. The cost of Neo Metro is coming down by about one thousand crore rupees as compared to the original metro. The central government is also emphasizing on making Neo Metro in small cities.
The said proposal has been sent only under the Neo Metro Policy of the Central Government. After approval from the center, we will have to make arrangements to take the loan. After that the work on the project can start. Keeping in view the need of fast growing city, we are in dire need of modern transport medium.
