Historic flag fair will start on March 22

The historic Shree Jhanda Mela will be held on March 22, the day of Panchami. The preparations for this fair have intensified. In this context, a meeting of management was held in Darbar Sahib on Tuesday. On 22nd March, the historic holy fair will be inaugurated with the ascent of the flag. In this, necessary guidelines have been issued to all the office bearers of the fair organizing committee on behalf of Sajjadanashin Shri Mahant Devendra Das Maharaj. KC Juyal told that in 2022 lakhs of Sangat are likely to reach from country and abroad. For conducting the fair, 50 committees have been formed which will get the fair organized. Arrangements have been made in various branches of SGRR Public School for the fellows coming from the country and abroad. The branches of these schools include the school branches of Race Course, Bindal, Raja Road, Talab and Bombay Bagh where arrangements have been made for the stay of the devotees. Special arrangements have been made for 8 big langars and 4 small langars during the fair event this year.

According to the schedule of Shri Jhanda Mela, on 12th March, Subodh Uniyal, the representative of Shri Darbar Sahib, will take the orders of Shri Mahant Devendra Das Maharaj for the foot accompaniment of Punjab and on 14th March, Shri Jhanda will be hoisted at Araiyawala. Similarly, on March 15, a batch of pedestrians will reach Sahaspur. Sangat will be welcomed in Sahaspur by the organizing committee of Shri Darbar Sahib Mela. On March 16, the Sangat on foot will reach Shri Darbar Sahib via Kanwli where the Sangat will be welcomed as per tradition.

The Dhwaj Danda prepared for the raising of Shri Jhanda on 19th March will be brought from SGRR Bombay Bagh School to Shri Darbar Sahib. On the same day the sewing work will also start. According to tradition, on the evening of March 21, the accomplices who came from the east would be bid farewell. On March 22, between 8 am and 9 am, the program of landing of Shri Jhanda and bathing Shri Jhanda with curd, Ghee, Gangajal, and Panchgabyas by the servants and companions will start. From 10 am to 2 pm, Shri Mahant Devendra Das will give darshan to the sangat and the process of offering the cover will be completed. The Shree Jhanda will be raised on the same day between 3 pm and 4 pm. On March 24, the historic city parikrama and on April 10, 2022, the day of Ram Navami, Shri Jhanda Mela will end.

According to its history, Shri Jhanda Mela is organized every year at Shri Darbar Sahib Dehradun on the birth anniversary of Shri Guru Ram Rai Maharaj. Guru Ram Rai Maharaj was the son of the seventh Patshahi (the seventh guru of the Sikhs) Sri Guru Har Rai. Shri Guru Ram Rai Maharaj was born on Chaitravadi Panchami on the fifth day of Holi in the year 1646 in Kiratpur (District Hoshiarpur) of Punjab. Since then every year the historic Shree Jhanda Mela is organized by the Sangat on the fifth day of Holi (Chaitravadi Panchami) in Dehradun.
