Uttar Pradesh : Pallavi Patel won in Sirathu, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya lost by 7337 votes

Keshav Prasad Maurya, who is trying bet on BJP ticket from Sirathu assembly seat, lost to SP candidate Pallavi Patel. SP’s Pallavi Patel has defeated Keshav Prasad Maurya by 7337 votes. Pallavi has got 105568 votes here, while Keshav Prasad has to be satisfied with 98727 votes. On the third place, Munsab Ali of BSP got 10034 votes. SP won in 2014
The Samajwadi Party was able to win the Sirathu seat only in the 2014 by-election. The by-election took place after Keshav Prasad Maurya resigned from Sirathu’s MLA post after being elected MP from Phulpur. From 1993 to 2007, Sirathu seat was reserved for Scheduled Castes. During that time only BSP candidates had won from this seat. Keshav Prasad Maurya won on a BJP ticket after the seat was from the general category in the year 2012 and entered the assembly for the first time.

It is said that about 34 percent of the backward class voters are in this area. The total number of voters is 3,80,839. Of these, 19 per cent voters fall in the general category. About 33 per cent Dalit and 13 per cent Muslim voters are said to be in the area.
For the first time in 2012, the BJP won Sirathu seat
In the 2012 assembly elections, out of 22 seats in Prayagraj, Pratapgarh and Kaushambi, Sirathu was the only one from where the BJP won. This was the first victory of BJP in this seat. He had to face defeat in the previous two elections. After Atiq Ahmed became MP from Phulpur in 2004, he was defeated in the by-elections held on Allahabad City West seat and the same seat in 2007 assembly elections. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, held two years after the 2012 assembly elections, the party fielded him from Phulpur. In which he had fed BJP’s lotus for the first time in Phulpur seat by winning by a record margin of more than three lakh votes.
