Uttarakhand : Power failure in Kedarnath heats up UPCL executive engineer suspended

In the midst of claims of 24-hour power supply in the four dhams, the matter of power cuts has heated up. Chief Secretary Dr. SS Sandhu took cognizance of the matter and expressed displeasure at Secretary Energy and UCPL MD. On his instructions, the Executive Engineer (EE) of UPCL has been suspended. After the order, UPCL MD Anil Kumar visited Kedarnath and warned the officers and employees that negligence will not be tolerated at any level.

Actually, the government is already claiming that 24-hour power supply has been ensured in the four Dhams. A day before the opening of the doors of Kedarnath Dham, it was dark for several hours. On the day of the opening of the doors, the devotees had to suffer due to the power cut again.

The matter came to the notice of Chief Secretary Dr. SS Sandhu. Expressing displeasure over Secretary Energy R Meenakshi Sundaram and UPCL MD Anil Kumar, he suspended EE Dashrath Choudhary of UPCL posted in Kedarnath with immediate effect. In his place, EE Manoj Kumar has been given the responsibility of Kedarnath. He also directed the MD of UPCL to inspect the spot so that the power supply is not disrupted.

Under the order, UPCL MD Anil Kumar reached Kedarnath on Saturday itself. He inspected here and warned all the subordinates that negligence will not be tolerated at any level. He said that it is definitely the responsibility of every officer-employee of UPCL to provide uninterrupted power supply to the consumers. Wherever there is a problem, it will be resolved immediately. Talking to Amar Ujala, UPCL MD Anil Kumar told that there is a 130 km long power line, which is passing between the mountains and the forests. He said that it is being ensured that the power supply is smooth throughout the four Dhams.

Chief Secretary Dr. SS Sandhu expressed his displeasure as soon as the video of misbehavior with Chardham Yatris in Uttarkashi’s Barkot came to the notice of the social media. He ordered immediate action, after which Director General of Police Ashok Kumar suspended the accused policeman Ankur Chaudhary posted at Barkot police station with immediate effect. The DGP ordered SP Uttarkashi to investigate the matter. DGP Ashok Kumar said that those who behave chaotically with the devotees will not be spared.
