The electricity department had given the contract to install meters to two companies in the city. They installed the meter, but also sold the electricity theft formula to the customers by putting a local seal. When the officials of the Electricity Department came to know about this through MRI, their hands and feet swelled. On behalf of the department, a case was registered against the concerned companies EESL and LNCT in Lalpur-Pandeypur police station and power station. Both of them have installed meters in one lakh 60 thousand houses of the city. Now the department is preparing for checking by running a campaign in all these houses.

Couldn’t even notice

Under the Smart Meter Scheme, the Electricity Department had floated a tender to install meters in all the houses of the city. In this, two companies of Lucknow, LNCT and EESL won the tender. After this, the people of the company installed a meter in one lakh 60 thousand houses of the city and put a local seal in it and after informing the customers about it, they sold the electricity theft formula. The department didn’t even know about it. The officers woke up when the load on the transformer started coming in more than the readings.

Break the seal, steal

According to the department, both the companies put such a double standard seal that anyone can easily break it. After breaking the seal, he can easily use direct electricity without the help of any lineman. When the load started increasing simultaneously and the reading of the meter started decreasing, then the officers asked why so many lines were getting lost.

Exposed from the hills

When more load increased on the hills, the officials of the Electricity Department decided to run a checking campaign. When the reality came to the fore in the checking of three houses, everyone was shocked. Even half of the bill was not coming from the electricity used in these houses. The officers immediately took action against the three and after the matter came to light, FIR was lodged against the companies.

All meters will be removed

Now the department has made preparations to get new smart meters. As soon as the meters arrive, all the meters installed by both the companies will be removed and new smart meters will be installed in their place. Officials say that this time instead of tendering anyone, the entire work will be done at the departmental level.

Online MRI of all meters is being done. An FIR has been lodged against the concerned company at Lalpur Police Station and Electricity Station.
