Government strict on controversial shot perfume ad, orders to stop, DCW said promoting rape
After the controversy over two advertisements related to body spray brand Layer’r Shot, Delhi Commission of Women chairperson Swati Maliwal also objected to it. Maliwal called these advertisements promoting rape. Maliwal wrote a letter to the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur, drawing his attention on this subject. In this letter, the chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women demanded action against the perfume brand. Along with this, the Delhi Commission for Women had also issued a notice to the Delhi Police. Shortly after this, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has ordered a ban on this controversial deo advertisement. Along with this, an inquiry has also been set up according to the rules related to advertisement.
Swati Maliwal wrote a letter to Delhi Police
Taking suo motu cognizance of the matter, the chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women has said that the advertisements promote the culture of gang rape. In a notice sent to Delhi Police Cyber Crime, the commission chairman has demanded registration of FIR and removal of advertisements from TV. In the letter, Delhi Police has been asked to provide action taken report in this matter by 09.06.2022.
Advertisement promoting rape culture
Swati Maliwal said, “I am shocked! How many shameful and absurd advertisements are being shown on our television screens! What creativity is it that brings to us such a horrific form of toxic masculinity and encourages a culture of gang rape! FIR should be registered in the matter, advertisements should be closed and strictest fine should be imposed on this company. Delhi Police and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting should take immediate action in this matter without wasting any time.”
