Uttarakhand / Uttarkashi : The danger of landslide in the village, seven families left their ancestral houses

Landslide has become active again near Sarnaul village. Due to this the villagers could not sleep on Saturday night. On Sunday, seven families of the village left their ancestral houses and took shelter in the school and the village panchayat ghar. The villagers have demanded displacement from the administration at the earliest, so that they can build their houses in safe places.

Landslides active for many years
Landslide in Chandari Tok near Sarnaul village of Naugaon block of Uttarkashi district has been active for many years. 30 years ago, the process of displacement was also started by the administration, in which some families were displaced.

Villagers’ houses can be demolished anytime
At present, landslides have become the biggest threat to the seven families of the village. The ancestral houses of the villagers can collapse at any time due to landslide. On Saturday, the team of Barkot tehsil administration reached Sarnaul village on the information that the landslide was active.

Villagers were advised to vacate the house
After inspecting the landslide, the administration team advised seven families coming under threat to vacate their houses, after which the family of the affected villager Pratap Rana took shelter in Government Inter College Sarnaul.

The families of Praveen Rana, Tarveen Rana and Sanjay Rana took shelter in the village panchayat ghar. The families of Udai Singh Rana, Jabar Singh Rana and Chandan Singh Rana took shelter in the primary school, Sarnaul.

The roof of the panchayat house is also leaking
Praveen Rana, who was affected by the landslide, said that neither the team of geologists has come to inspect the landslide in the village nor the necessary facilities have been provided by the administration. The panchayat ghar where his family has taken shelter is in dilapidated condition and the roof of the panchayat ghar is leaking.

Villagers said that around 1990, the administration had tried to displace the villagers to Butadhar near the village, Dhungiri in Purola block, and Badshahi Bagh near Vikanagar.

The villagers could not leave the village for their livelihood due to agriculture and animal husbandry. Some villagers were displaced near the village. But, due to active landslides again, the problem of displacement has arisen in front of the villagers.
