Referring to MNREGA, the Supreme Court said, many times political parties are unable to win even after promises

On the announcement of schemes by political parties to provide free facilities and things, the Supreme Court said that we cannot stop it. A bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana said on Wednesday that the court cannot stop political parties from announcing schemes to provide things free of cost. The Chief Justice said that it is the job of the government to work for the welfare of the people. The court said, ‘The matter of concern is how public money is to be spent. This matter is quite complex. The question also arises whether the court has the power to give any decision on this issue.
The Chief Justice said that which schemes can be included in freebies declarations and which are not, it is a very complex issue. According to Livelaw, the Chief Justice said, ‘We cannot stop political parties from making promises. The question is which promises are true. Can we take the promise of free education as freebies? Can providing free drinking water and some units of electricity also be considered as freebies? Or the distribution of consumer goods and electronics items can be included in the welfare scheme.
The court said that the matter of concern at the moment is what can be the right way to spend public money. Some people say that money is being wasted. Apart from this, some people are of the opinion that it is welfare. This matter is getting complicated. You can give your opinion. After debate and discussion, we can take a decision on this. Not only this, the court also said that political parties do not get victory on the basis of promises alone. The Chief Justice also gave the example of MNREGA during this period. He said that sometimes political parties make promises, but even after that they are not able to come by winning. The court has now decided to hear the matter next week.
