Uttar Pradesh : Ganga in spate, Hundreds of villages affected by floods from Banaras to Ballia, people forced to leave their homes
The water level of Ganga, which is considered to be life-giving, continues to rise. In Varanasi, Chandauli, Ballia, Ghazipur, Chandauli, the water level crossed the red mark, while in Mirzapur, Bhadohi, the warning point was crossed. The Ganges has reached near the highest flood point in Ballia. Hundreds of villages of Purvanchal are affected by the floods. People are fighting the battle to reach safe places by destroying their own homes to avoid floods. Seeing the fierce form of the Ganges, the people living on the banks are living in panic. If this attitude of Ganga continues for the next 24 hours, then water will start writing the story of destruction in many other areas as well.
In Varanasi, the Ganga is flowing 33 cm above the red mark. Due to the fierce form of the Ganges, the normal life has been completely disturbed due to the reverse flow in Varuna and Asi. According to the Central Water Commission, the rise in the water level of the Ganga decreased in the morning on Saturday. The water level of Ganga is rising at the speed of one centimeter per hour since morning.
In Varanasi, water has started spreading in the urban population and settlements. A population of more than 15,000 is affected by the floods. Five acres of crops have been submerged in the banks of the Ganges. According to the Central Water Commission, the water level of Ganga was recorded at 71.59 meters at 7 pm and it is 33 cm above the danger mark of 71.26 meters.
Ganga is flowing above the danger mark of 63.105 meters in Ghazipur. Traffic has come to a standstill due to water-logging on three approach roads of half a dozen villages of Revatipur block. The water level of Ganga is increasing by two cm per hour. The water level was at 63.720 meters till 6 pm. In Chandauli, the Ganga is flowing above the danger mark of 71.26 meters. The water level was 71.59 meters at 7 pm on Saturday. The water is rising at three cm per hour.
The Ganges is in a position to approach the highest flood point in Ballia. The water level of Ganga may break the record of the year 2016. The highest flood point was 60.390 m in 2016. The water level was at 59.210 meters at 4 pm. The water of the Ganges has entered half a dozen villages. About a dozen primary and upper primary schools’ companions, only two inter-college and one college, have been flooded by flood water.
In Mirzapur, flood waters have reached the villages on the banks of the Ganges in Chhanbe, Kon, Majhwan, CT, Padri, Sikhad, Narayanpur development block. Contact has been lost due to flooding of roads. The only way to reach the villages is by boat. The water level of the Ganges was increasing at the speed of one centimeter per hour at 4 pm on Saturday. The water level of Ganga has crossed the warning point and reached 78.44 meters. The danger mark is 77.724 meters.
The water level in Bhadohi crossed the warning point. The water is rising at the speed of 1.2 cm per hour. The water level has reached 80.225 meters after crossing the warning point 80.200 meters. It is one meter below the danger mark of 81.200.
NDRF team on Saturday evacuated 19 people trapped in flood-prone areas of Varanasi. Under the direction of Commandant Manoj Kumar Sharma, the team of Inspector Mithilesh rescued 10 children and two teachers in Swami Narayan Nand Teerth Veda Vidyalaya in front of Ravidas Ghat and brought them to a safe place by boat.
