The wife of retired IAS and suspended BJP leader Seema Patra, who harassed the maid for 8 years, has been arrested by Ranchi Police. Patra was trying to escape for fear of arrest, before Argora police arrested her. The police was looking for him for the last two days. He will be produced in court today.
A 29-year-old tribal girl with disabilities was imprisoned for 8 years by the wife of retired IAS Maheshwar Patra on the pretext of working in the house. The name of the victim is Sunita. He told that he was not given enough food. He was beaten with a rod and burnt with a hot pan. At present, he has been released from captivity and admitted to Ranchi RIMS.
Governor Bais angry
Governor Ramesh Bais has expressed his displeasure by taking cognizance of the Seema Patra case. Expressing his serious concern over the laxity of the police, he has asked the Director General of Police of the state why the police has not taken any action against the culprit till now.
If asked to go home, the owner used to kill
The Patra couple lives in Ashok Nagar, the VIP area of Ranchi. Victim Sunita told that she is a resident of Gumla. Seema Patra has two children. When the daughter got a job in Delhi, she went to Delhi 10 years ago to work at home. She came back to Ranchi 6 years ago. He was being harassed from the very beginning. She wanted to leave the job, but was kept hostage in the house for 8 years. When she asked to go home, she was beaten up badly. When he was sick, he was not even treated.

One day, Sunita somehow informed about the atrocities being committed on her by sending a message to Vivek Anand Baske, a government employee on mobile. On information, a complaint was registered at Argora police station. After this, the team of Ranchi Police and District Administration rescued Sunita.
Seema was the convener of ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ campaign
Seema’s husband Maheshwar Patra has been the secretary in the disaster management department in the state and retired as the development commissioner. Seema was also a BJP leader. He was also made the state convener of the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao campaign by the party.

Case registered under SC-ST sections
A case has been registered against Seema Patra in different sections of SC-ST at Argora police station in Ranchi. Along with this, a case has also been registered under IPC sections. Hatia DSP Raja Mitra has been appointed as the Investigating Officer. Police are waiting for the victim to be medically fit so that her statement can be recorded. Two women policemen have also been deployed for Sunita’s security.
