It is worth mentioning that after assuming the chair in July last year, Chief Minister Dhami had talked about the formation of a high power committee on land law. The debate on the need for strict land laws also arose because then BJP leader Ajendra Ajay had written a letter saying that systematic land jihad was going on in the mountain.

It is worth mentioning that Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri was the first to bring the land law in the state while being the Chief Minister, under which many provisions were made to stop the random purchase and sale of land. There was a provision in these that any person from outside the state can buy only two hundred and fifty square meters of land for his use in Uttarakhand.
