‘Asia Cup is for winning, not for experimenting’, stalwarts lash out at Rohit-Dravid

The performance of the Indian team in the Asia Cup 2022 was quite disappointing. Team India was eliminated from the Super-4 stage itself and could not make it to the final. Questions are being raised on the continuous experiments being done by captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid. Now former cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar has also raised questions on the strategy of Team India.
Dilip Vengsarkar wrote that the team is still going ahead with the experiments. Dinesh Karthik was selected in the team, but he was not fed. Ravichandran Ashwin was also fed less. The team management has to do this in order to find the best playing-11 for the World Cup.
The former cricketer said that Asia Cup is a very big tournament, it is very important to win big matches in such tournaments. You can use in any bilateral series, but tournaments like Asia Cup, World Cup are not meant to be used.
Significantly, Team India could win only one match in the Super-4 stage in the Asia Cup. Here Pakistan beat India by 5 wickets and then Sri Lanka by 6 wickets. After losing two consecutive matches, Team India was out of the race for the Asia Cup final. However, in the end they defeated Afghanistan by 101 runs.
Before the T20 World Cup, many changes have been made in Team India. Sometimes the captain was changed in the series and many opening pairs have also been changed. This is the reason why experts had taken a jibe at the continuous changes. After becoming the coach of Rahul Dravid, Team India has opened players like Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rituraj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, Deepak Hooda as openers.
Team India is ready for T20 World Cup. The World Cup is to be held in Australia next month and the team can be announced soon before that. In such a situation, it remains to be seen which players get a place in the World Cup squad.
