The effigy was brought back and erected near the Nanda Devi temple. Not burning the effigy of Ravana has become a topic of discussion in Almora. According to the information, on the day of Dussehra, there was a dispute between the two committees over something. The dispute happened when a youth of a effigy committee misbehaved with Dhananjay, a resident of Nanda Devi of Ravana effigy committee. Dhananjay told that a young man first caught his hand, then he started tearing the shirt. He told that he gave this information to the Dussehra Festival Committee.

Demanded to throw out the effigy of the effigy committee from which the youth who was indecisive to the Dussehra Festival Committee. They allege that the Dussehra Festival Committee did not take any action on this. After this, the effigy of Ravana was stopped in protest in Chowk Bazar. Because of this, the chariot of Ram also stopped in the Chowk market. However, in the meantime, after somehow compromising, the effigy of Ravana was taken to the market. After this, there was a dispute again between the Dussehra committee and the Ravana effigy (Nandadevi) committee. The controversy grew so much that the committee that made the effigy of Ravana refused to burn the effigy of Ravana in the stadium. After this, the committee that made the effigy of Ravana raised the effigy of Ravana without burning it back to the same place near the Nanda Devi temple, where it was made. There is a lot of discussion in Almora about the non-burning of Ravana’s effigy. Ajit Karki, chairman of the Dussehra committee, says that a lot of effort was made to pacify the dispute between the two effigy committees, but even after that the effigy of Ravana could not be burnt. Such people will be banned from next year for making effigies.

Dussehra of Almora is famous

Dussehra of Almora is quite famous. Here, more than 2 dozen artistic giant effigies of the Ravana family are made. According to senior theater artist Naveen Bisht, Ramlila was first organized in Badreshwar temple in Almora. It is said that then only the effigy of Ravana was made, but later gradually the number of effigies of the Ravana family increased. Today that number is more than 2 dozen. Naveen Bisht says that this has never happened in the history of more than 150 years. This is a disgrace and disgrace to tradition.
