The man fell ill at an altitude of thousands of feet, emergency landing of Turkish Airlines plane in Kolkata

A 69-year-old man on board a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul to Singapore made an emergency landing at Kolkata airport on Thursday after he fell seriously ill. An official said the elderly passenger was experiencing uncontrolled muscle tension and bleeding from his nose and mouth.

Considering the condition of the passenger, the pilot of Turkish Airlines flight TK-054 decided to make an emergency landing at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, the official said. The aircraft landed at the airport at 11:45 am after getting clearance from the Air Traffic Control (ATC), he said.

The ailing passenger was first treated at the airport and then taken to a hospital, the official said. He said that the plane left for the destination at 2.52 pm with the rest of the passengers. At the same time, the sick passenger is being treated in Kolkata itself.
