The brakes of a goods train failed while descending from the valley on the Gaya-Dhanbad route. Due to this the speed of the goods train reached 150KM per hour. An attempt was made to stop it by slip siding before Gurpa station. During this, 57 bogies were overturned due to the breakdown of the coupling. While the engine kept running with a bogie. Railway officials had also made preparations to derail the goods train. But as soon as the engine and its rear bogie were shifted to another track for slip siding, due to the high speed, the balance of the bogies behind it was disturbed and 57 bogies overturned.
