Former BJP MP accuses Modi government minister of corruption, says flat was bought abroad with government money

Former BJP MP Subramanian Swamy is often seen as an attacker on the Modi government. This time Swamy has made serious allegations against a minister of the Modi government by tweeting. Swamy has accused Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Puri of buying apartments with corruption money.

Subramanian Swamy has alleged that Puri bought an apartment in Geneva by embezzling the money sent by the government. Swamy writes in his tweet, “When Puri was posted in Geneva, he diverted money sent by the government to Sri Lankan Tamils and bought a large apartment in the posh area of Geneva with the looted money.”

Swamy wrote in his tweet with a question mark that, “Did he (Puri) reveal that when he became Modi’s minister as per the need?” There has been no response from the central government or Hardeep Puri on these allegations so far.

Geneva and Hardeep Singh Puri
According to Hardeep Singh Puri’s profile on the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, during his career spanning 39 years, he has held senior positions in the Ministries of External Affairs and Defense. He held ambassadorial duties in London and Brasilia and served as India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva and New York. Earlier served in India’s missions in Tokyo and Colombo.

Wide experience in multilateral diplomacy, having served on three occasions as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to GATT/United Nations in Geneva from 2002 to 2005.

Have already targeted Puri
Subramanian Swamy has targeted Hardeep Puri in the past as well. In March 2021, the decision to privatize six major airports of the country was taken when Hardeep Puri was the Civil Aviation Minister. This news flashed only by quoting Puri. Swamy then took a jibe at the Union government and the civil aviation minister, saying, “Why not allow Adani to become the civil aviation minister instead?”

At present, Puri is the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas as well as the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs. Last August, he had talked about giving flats to Rohingya refugees. Later, the Ministry of Home Affairs had to come forward to clarify on this matter. However, by then Puri was surrounded on social media.

Swami had even demanded the dismissal of Puri. He wrote in his tweet, “Hardeep Singh Puri should be sacked from the ministry. They have violated national interests by ordering the construction of apartments for Rohingya refugees.”
