Case of comment on Veer Savarkar, Shinde faction lodged FIR against Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s comment on Veer Savarkar seems to be gaining momentum. First Uddhav Thackeray shied away from Rahul’s statement. Now the Eknath Shinde faction has filed a case against Rahul Gandhi in this matter.
According to news agency ANI, Vandana Suhas Dongre, on behalf of Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde’s party Balasaheb Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), has filed a police complaint against Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on Veer Savarkar. He has lodged a complaint with the police for “defaming the freedom fighter and hurting the sentiments of the local people” in his complaint. The police have registered a case under sections 500 and 501 IPC in the matter.
What did Rahul Gandhi say
During the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi made the comment on Vinayak Damodar Savarkar while addressing a rally in Washim district of Maharashtra on Thursday, according to PTI. He said that Savarkar had helped the British. To avoid torture in jail, he wrote an apology and betrayed Mahatma Gandhi and other then Indian leaders.
Uddhav and Pawar also sidelined
Uddhav Thackeray and NCP Chief Sharad Pawar have also sided with Rahul Gandhi’s remarks about Veer Savarkar. Uddhav said in a statement that he does not support Rahul Gandhi’s remarks. He has immense respect for Savarkar. On the other hand, NCP Chief Pawar also on many occasions Savarkar has been praised.
