Clash between security forces deployed in Gujarat elections, news of two deaths
Two soldiers were killed and two jawans were injured in firing following a clash between soldiers of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) deployed for the assembly elections in Gujarat’s Porbandar.
Porbandar Collector and District Election Officer AM Sharma confirmed the incident to the BBC Gujarati service and said that “the incident took place on Saturday at around 7 pm.”
He told, “At the polling station in Porbandar, arrangements were made to stay for the IRB jawans who have come here from Manipur for elections in Gujarat.”
“An altercation started between the jawans present here and the matter escalated to a fight. A jawan opened fire with an AK-47 in which two jawans were killed while two injured jawans are being treated at a hospital in Jamnagar.
On getting information about the incident, senior police and election officials reached the hospital. What started this dispute is not yet known.
