Space rock coming close to the earth with a speed of 38 thousand km
Millions of asteroids are roaming in the space. Just as all the planets in our solar system revolve around the Sun, similarly the asteroids also revolve around the Sun. In this process, many asteroids pass very close to the Earth. Scientists monitor them until the asteroid moves away from the Earth. If an asteroid collides with the earth, there can be a big catastrophe. Tomorrow i.e. on Saturday, an asteroid will pass very close to the Earth, due to which the American space agency NASA has issued an alert.
NASA has issued this alert about Asteroid 2022 WU11. This 98 feet wide asteroid is the size of an aircraft. When it will reach the closest to the Earth, then the distance between the two will be only 44 lakh kilometers. Interestingly, Asteroid 2022 WU11 is approaching our planet at a speed of about 38 thousand 26 kilometers per hour.
According to the information, it has been kept in the category of ‘potentially dangerous’, whatever asteroid comes within the radius of 8 million kilometers of the earth, it is monitored by keeping it in the category of ‘dangerous’. This asteroid was discovered in November this year. This asteroid belonging to the Apollo group takes 1176 days to complete one round of the Sun. Then its maximum distance from the Sun is 51 crore 30 lakh kilometers and the closest distance is 13 crore 90 lakh kilometers.
Whenever asteroids come close to the Earth, scientists look at the distance between them and the Earth. For this the help of satellite and radar is taken. Most asteroids orbit in the main asteroid belt between the planets Mars and Jupiter, but many asteroids have orbits that pass near Earth. Asteroids that cross Earth’s orbital path are known as Earth-crossers.
The shape of most asteroids is irregular. Some are round, some are oval. There are also some asteroids that have their own moon. Many also have two moons. Scientists have also discovered double and triple asteroid systems, in which these rocks revolve around each other.
