Modi government spent 6300 crores on publicity in 8 years, Anurag Thakur presented the figure in Lok Sabha

6399.6 crore was spent by the central government on advertisements through print and electronic mediums in the last eight years. This figure was presented by Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur on Tuesday in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha. From the year 2014, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued year-wise details of expenditure incurred by each ministry on advertisements through print and electronic medium.

According to the data presented by Union Minister Anurag Thakur, Rs 3138.81 crore was spent on advertisements through print media from the year 2014-15 till December 7, 2022. While Rs 3260.79 crore was spent on advertisement through electronic media during this period.

According to the data provided by the government through the Central Bureau of Communications (CBC), Rs 424.84 crore was spent on print media and Rs 473.67 crore on electronic media in 2014-15. Apart from this, Rs 508.22 crore was spent on print media and Rs 531.60 crore was spent on electronic media in the year 2015-16. In the year 2016-17, Rs 468.53 crore was spent on print media and Rs 609.60 crore was spent on electronic media.

Rs 636.09 crore was spent on print media in 2017-18

In the year 2017-18, Rs 636.09 crore was spent on print media and Rs 514.28 crore was spent on electronic media. As per the data, in the year 2018-19 Rs 429.55 crore was spent on print media while Rs 514.28 crore was spent on electronic media for publicity.

In the year 2019-20, Rs 295.05 crore was spent on print media and Rs 317.11 crore on electronic media. In the year 2020-21, Rs 197.49 crore was spent on print media and Rs 167.98 crore on electronic media. In the same last year 2021-22, Rs 179.04 crore was spent on print media and Rs 101.24 crore on electronic media.

Modi government has not spent any money on advertisements in foreign media: Anurag Thakur

In the current year 2022-23, till December 7, 2022, the government spent Rs 91.96 crore on print media and Rs 76.84 crore on electronic media. It was also informed by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting that the Modi government has not spent any money on advertisements in foreign media.
