Now one type of charger will be used in mobile phones across the country, Government of India has issued an order
In an effort to benefit consumers and reduce electronic waste, the Government of India has made a major change in the charger used while charging mobiles. All types of phones and smartphones have been asked to use the same USB Type-C charging port.
What is said in the order?
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has released standards for USB Type-C charging ports that will be used for mobile phones, smartphones and tablets. Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh claimed that companies have almost agreed to adopt USB Type-C as the charging port for smartphones, tablets and laptops. The government will implement it from December 2024.
The European Parliament has already made laws
The European Parliament has passed a resolution that states that by the end of 2024 all consumer electronics, including iPhones and AirPods, will use USB Type-C as their standard charging port. From 2026, this rule can also be brought for laptops.
Won’t require a separate charger
Under the new rules, consumers will no longer need a separate charger every time they buy a new device, as they will be able to use a single charger for the entire category of small and mid-sized portable electronic devices. Regardless of their manufacturer, all new mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones and headsets, handheld video-game consoles and laptops that are rechargeable via a wired cable operate with power delivery of up to 100 watts. They will have to be equipped with a USB Type-C port.
Charging speed is now the same across all devices
All devices that support fast charging will now have the same charging speed, allowing users to charge their devices at the same speed from any compatible charger.
