Legendary Brazilian footballer Pele died, breathed his last at the age of 82, battling cancer
Legendary Brazilian footballer Pele passed away. He was 82 years old. His death was confirmed by his daughter Kelly Nascimento on Instagram. Pele was battling colon cancer. He had also stopped responding to chemotherapy treatment. Pele was recently admitted to the hospital, where it was found that he also had a respiratory infection. Pele is considered one of the greatest football players of all time and is a three-time World Cup winner. Daughter Kelly Nascimento wrote on Instagram – Whatever we are, it is because of you. We love you very much. Rest in Peace.
Pele has won the FIFA World Cup three times
Born in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, the legendary footballer is still the top goalscorer for the Selecao (Brazil). He scored 77 goals in 92 matches. As a professional footballer, Pelé won the FIFA World Cup a total of three times (1958, 1962, 1970) which is still a record for an individual footballer.
FIFA awarded him the title of ‘The Greatest’
Pele’s real name was Edson Arantes do Nascimento, but he became famous as Pele. He was born on October 23, 1940 in Tres Corações, Brazil. He also got the title of ‘The Greatest’ by FIFA. Pele had three marriages. They have a total of seven children.
Pele was battling colon cancer
Pele breathed his last at the age of 82 after colon cancer. Chemotherapy was also going on for a long time. Pele was admitted to a hospital in São Paulo on 29 November with shortness of breath. However, he stopped responding to chemotherapy. Pele had a tumor removed from his colon in September last year and has been receiving regular hospital treatment since then.
Pele is a great player
Pelé represented Brazilian club Santos for much of his career (1956–1974). For this club, he scored 643 goals in 659 matches. The last two years of his football career, Pelé played for the New York Cosmos in the USA.
Pelé won the Brazilian league title (Campeonato Brasileiro Série A) on six occasions (1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1968) and the Copa Libertadores twice, in 1962 and 1963. He was one of the key players in Santos’ Golden Era (1959–1974), leading them to two Intercontinental Cup titles in 1962 and 1963. On both occasions Santos defeated Portuguese club Benfica in the final.

In one of his Instagram posts, Pele thanked his fans for their well wishes. He wrote- Friends, I have come to the hospital for my regular check-up. It is always nice to receive such positive messages. Thank you for this and thank you to everyone who sends me nice messages!
In his last Instagram post, Pele congratulated the Argentina team on winning the FIFA World Cup. Also mentioned Lionel Messi. Pele wrote- Football told its story again in an interesting way today. Messi won his first World Cup, which he deserved. Mbappe scored four goals (including the penalty shootout) in the final. Watching this match was nothing less than a gift for the future of football. Has been awarded the FIFA Player of the Century Award
Pele has also been awarded the FIFA Player of the Century Award. He shared the feat with Diego Maradona of Argentina, who passed away last year. Pele won his first World Cup title at the age of 18. During this he scored six goals. This included two goals in the final against Sweden. By 1962, Pelé had established himself as one of the top football players in the world.
