INS VALSURA CELEBRATES WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

The World Environment Day was observed on 05 Jun 20 by INS Valsura, the premier electrical training establishment of the Indian Navy. It was based on United Nations promulgated theme Biodiversity. The unit organised a number of activities involving each and every section of Valsura family to spread awareness on the importance of protecting the environment and enhancing the biodiversity.
A mass plantation drive was conducted wherein a total of 610 saplings of 63 local species were planted all across the establishment. The unit is also developing an urban forest based on the concept of Miyawaki plantation. 300 shrubs have been grafted in the Unit nursery and distributed to residents for increasing the green cover in the accommodation areas.
Concerted efforts were made by all the residents to weed out plastic and non-biodegradable wastes from their premises during mass shramdan organized all over the base. The base is also encouraging all personnel to use cycles for commuting to work place.
Apainting and slogan writing competition was also organised by the unit wherein participants displayed their creative artistic skills to spread awareness about environmental issues. With the objective of educating the young minds of the establishment, webinars were organised by Kendriya Vidyalaya and Naval Kindergarten school of the unit.
