Initially, the importance of adding speed to your bowling was not known : Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar said that in his early years he was not aware of the importance of adding speed to his bowling but once he did it helped him retain the swing that would trouble the batsmen. In the video released on the Twitter handle of his Indian Premier League (IPL) team Sunrisers Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar said, “To be honest, in the first few years I did not feel that it was necessary to add anything to the pace. “I kept playing and then I realized that with the swing I needed to improve my speed too because bowling at a speed of 130 kmph or less made the batsmen keep pace with the swing,” he said. So I wanted to speed up but didn’t know how to do it. The 31-year-old bowler has so far taken 63 wickets in 21 Tests, 138 wickets in 117 ODIs and 45 wickets in 48 T20 Internationals. He said, Luckily I was able to improve my speed and it really helped me a lot. So if you bowl at speeds not more than 140 km but around 135 km, then it helps to maintain swing and get the batsman in trouble. Bhuvneshwar has been battling injuries and has not been named in the squad for the World Test Championship against New Zealand and the five-Test series against England.
