Surat : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has reached Surat court in a defamation case. The case pertains to Rahul’s alleged remark at his 2019 election rally- why all thieves have a nickname Modi. The case was registered by Purnesh Modi, BJP MLA from Surat-West.
Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Chavda said that Rahul will visit Surat. Chavda said, Rahul Gandhi will be in Surat at around 10 am and will leave the city around 12 to 12:30 pm. There is nothing political about it in his journey, rather it only pertains to his court appearance.

On April 13, 2019, at a Lok Sabha election rally in Kolar, Karnataka, Rahul had said- Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi, Narendra Modi.. Why all of them have the surname Modi? Why do all thieves have Modi’s surname?

After this, in his complaint, Purnesh Modi had said that the Congress leader has insulted the entire Modi community with his remarks. MLA Purnesh Modi had filed a defamation case against Rahul in a local court. A case was registered for violation of sections 499 and 500 of IPC.
