Andre Russell returns to West Indies T20 squad

Cricket West Indies has announced a 13-man West Indies squad for the opening two matches of the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa with the return of star all-rounder Andre Russell. He last represented the team in the T20I series against Sri Lanka in March 2020.

Russell, who played 49 T20 matches for the West Indies, has been a member of the team that won the 2012 and 2016 T20 World Cup. Chief selector Roger Harper described Russell as an impressive player, saying he could potentially change the game with both bat and ball. He has also stressed the importance of the five-match T20I series against South Africa ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup later this year.

Harper said in a statement on Friday, “Andre Russell will prove to be a big X-factor for the team.” He is an impressive player with both bat and ball and delivers more depth in both the departments. We will pick our best team for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
It is noteworthy that the first T20 match between West Indies and South Africa is to be played at the Grenada National Stadium today, while the other four matches are also to be played here.

West Indies squad: Kieron Pollard (capt), Nicholas Pooran (vice captain), Fabian Allen, Dwayne Bravo, Fidel Edwards, Andre Fletcher, Chris Gayle, Jason Holder, Evin Lewis, Obed McCoy, Andre Russell, Lendl Simmons, Kevin Sinclair .
